One doesn't need to pay attention to detail to know I am a fabulous procrastinator with my blog and this journal. This winter was long and presented me with a new set of mental and physical obstacles that I can honestly say I wasn't quite prepared for. What I will say, is that I had a lot of time to think about what this event is, what I want it to look like, and how I can best make it happen ( at least for this year :-)
When I did this event in 2013, I had no idea what I was doing!!! I offered up doing a solo Ironman with an invitation of people joining me as they could. It was an amazing day. We raised over $17,000 for Alzheimer's. It was the start of something that I only had a hint of understanding.
Last year, in an effort to invite more people to participate, I had visions of relay teams accomplishing an Ironman Triathlon together. This proved to be much more complicated than I thought. I was filling in gaps on our two teams as they needed. As it turned out, by the eve of the '14 "Tri Together...", I had committed myself to almost a full Ironman distance without having trained, so under-prepared that I showed up at the lake without bike shoes to be able to do the return bike course back to Yarmouth!! What a wild start!! In all, we raised over $9,000 last year, had lots of fun, and I learned a lot!
This year, I hope, I have a better understanding of how to simplify and make this event more accessible to everyone in an even larger way. This event isn't about me doing an Ironman distance triathlon by myself. It is about us all moving, at some point, during the day in a way that we can (swimming, biking, walking/running) and together accomplishing as many Ironman distance Triathlons together as we can, raising as much awareness about and money for Alzheimer's, those with this disease and their caregivers.
I believe this had been the vision in the past but the unfolding of it has been challenging. ( I have a beautiful knack of making simply things very complicated in case some of you didn't notice!).
Anyway, with that said, I have taken some liberties to change things in an effort, I hope, to make things simpler for anyone that would like to participate. General information and registration are all accessible on our home page.
More information to come about the "day of" schedule, volunteer needs and opportunities, and participant info will all be available soon.
What you need to do now is think about how you might like to more and invite your friends to join you for some part of the 3rd Annual TLD: Tri Together... An Ironman for Alzheimer's
As for me and my training, it's been its own wild ride. The warmer weather is finally allowing for more movement than I felt able to do for most of the winter and spring. I am also moving better after a few setbacks with a hip issue that I was choosing to ignore until it wouldn't let me :-)
All in all, I am so grateful to all of you for supporting both the Train The Trainer and TLD: Tri Together... An Ironman for Alzheimer's events. I have some crazy ideas that only take flight because of all you!!!!
