Background:
As some of you know, I first realized my mother, Linda Sue Saxton, had Alzheimer's disease in 1998, the day after Thanksgiving, on what felt like the longest day of my life. My mother was just 54 years old. Alzheimer’s is a progressive disease that impairs cognitive function and exhibits symptoms of dementia and memory loss. Although widely diagnosed, there still remains no cure or definitive cause.
It’s been said that living with Alzheimer’s can make every day feel like the longest day.
For this reason, The Alzheimer’s Association has issued us all a challenge: be in motion for the entire 16 hours of daylight to honour those facing Alzheimer's disease and their caregivers.
June 22, 2013, I took up this challenge and committed to doing a solo Ironman Triathlon. This was such a huge success. Team Fitness Success raised $17,000 for Alzheimer's. This would not have been possible without all of you!!
The idea “Tri-Together... An Ironman for Alzheimer's” sprang from last year’s huge success.
“Tri Together.." is an invitation to be in motion and contribute time & mileage to an Ironman Triathlon. Every bit counts. No distance is too smalll. Anyone and everyone can make a contribution to be in motion for some part of the 15 hour summer solstice. The intention being more people moving, more fun and more money raised for an amazing cause ☺ !
